Maria Corazon “Cory” Sumulong Cojuangco-Aquino was born on January 25, 1933, in Paniqui, Tarlac, to Jose Cojuangco and Demetria Sumulong, with five siblings. She studied at St. Scholastica’s College in Manila and graduated from the College of Mount Saint Vincent in New York City in 1953, with a degree in French and a minor in Mathematics. Cory married Benigno S. Aquino Jr., and they had five children: Benigno III, Kris, Pinky, Victoria Elisa, and Maria Elena. Following her husband’s assassination, she became a key leader in the People Power Revolution and served as the 11th President of the Philippines from 1986 to 1992, restoring democracy and guiding the nation toward political stability.
