Ramon del Fierro Magsaysay Sr., the 7th President of the Philippines, was born on August 31, 1907, in Iba, Zambales to Exequiel Magsaysay and Perfecta del Fierro, who raised him in a humble and hardworking environment. He grew up alongside his many siblings — Mercedes, Concepcion, Jesus, Soledad, Conchita, Luisa, Jose, and Genaro— forming a large and close-knit family that shaped his grounded personality.
Magsaysay pursued his education at the University of the Philippines and later at José Rizal University, where he completed a Bachelor of Commerce degree. Before entering politics, he worked as a mechanic, a job that reflected his practical mindset and ability to connect deeply with ordinary Filipinos.
He married Luz Rosauro Banzon, with whom he had three children: Teresita, Milagros, and Ramon Jr. His dedication to both family and country became one of his defining traits.
Magsaysay rose to national prominence through his strong leadership as Secretary of National Defense, where he gained public trust for effectively addressing the Hukbalahap rebellion. His integrity, simplicity, and genuine concern for the masses led him to the presidency on December 30, 1953. Throughout his term, he championed transparency, rural development, and people-centered governance.
His leadership was cut short when he tragically died in a plane crash on March 17, 1957. Despite his brief presidency, Magsaysay remains one of the most admired leaders in Philippine history, often remembered for his honesty, humility, and unwavering dedication to the Filipino people.
