BIOGRAPHY

Sergio Osmeña Sr. was born on September 9, 1878, in Cebu City, Cebu, to Don Antonio Sanson and Juana Osmeña y Suico. He grew up alongside his siblings Vicente, Manuela, and Maria, and pursued an impressive education, earning a Bachelor’s degree from Colegio de San Juan de Letrán and a law degree from the University of Santo Tomas. Osmeña was married twice, first to Estefania Chiong Veloso, with whom he had eleven children: Nicasio, Vicenta, Edilberto, Milagros, Emilio, Maria, Paloma, Jesus, Teodoro, José, and Sergio Jr.; and later to Esperanza Limjap, with whom he had three children: Ramón, Rosalina, and Victor. He lived a life dedicated to family, learning, and public service until his passing on October 19, 1961.
