Known as the “Champion of the Masses” and “Defender of Democracy” for his humility, courage, and genuine concern for ordinary Filipinos.
The first monument built in his honor was unveiled on April 24, 1957 in San Clemente, Tarlac, just 38 days after his death.
The monument was inaugurated with Executive Secretary Fortunato de Leon representing the Magsaysay family.
He was also the first Philippine president to visit the municipality of San Clemente, reinforcing his reputation as a leader who stayed close to the people.
