Carlos Polestico Garcia was born on November 4, 1896, in Talibon, Bohol, to Policronio Garcia and Ambrocia Polestico, and grew up with two siblings, Vicente and Maria. He pursued his education at Silliman University, Philippine Law School, and earned a law degree (LL.B.) from National University. Garcia married Leonila Dimataga, and they had one daughter, Linda Garcia–Campos. He became the eighth President of the Philippines, serving from March 18, 1957, to December 30, 1961, and is remembered for his strong advocacy of Filipino nationalism, economic development, and the “Filipino First Policy.” He passed away on June 14, 1971, leaving a legacy of dedicated public service.
