Let's Reflect on Unit 3: Ethical Use of Social & Digital Media
Unit 3 focused on ethical use of social and digital media and helped me better understand the responsibilities that come with using technology. Throughout the unit, I learned about important concepts such as digital ethics, acceptable use policies (AUP), accessibility, plagiarism, copyright, and Creative Commons licensing. We also explored the different types of digital media and learned the differences between file formats such as JPG, GIF, MP3, and MP4, as well as how to properly embed media into digital projects. We also reflected on our own social media use and discussed the difference between ethical and unethical behavior online, helping me become more aware of how my actions can affect others in digital spaces.
Lesson Learned:
One of my favorite activities was creating my own Creative Commons license for a photograph I took, which is featured on my Digital Media page. This experience made me realize that so much of the content we see online exists because someone took the time to create it and share it with others. Whether it's a photo, video, song, or graphic, there is usually a creator behind it who deserves recognition for their work. This unit taught me the importance of respecting intellectual property by giving proper credit, following copyright and licensing rules, and using media ethically. Overall, it strengthened my understanding of digital ethics and reminded me that being a responsible digital citizen means respecting the creativity and effort of others.
