Welcome truth seekers and ring enjoyers alike. This is Tales from the Bottom Rope, where we come at you asking the questions that few are brave enough to find the answer to. Tonight for our very first entry to this irregular series, we are going to touch upon an internet horror tale that has taken the entire world by storm.
A string of kidnappings so meticulous, so mysterious, and so hauntingly supernatural, that to this day they each remain unsolved, as they continue to grow in number. With the victims being returned short after, scarred both physically and mentally, our only point of reference is a strange sentient dark blob disappearing into the shadows whenever spotted.
This is the story of the Umbra Cases, and the entity colloquially known as The Goop.
On an ordinary day in the small town of Puyserain, France, Adelaide Siren was declared missing from her home. Her father, a beloved police officer, would spend countless days and nights working himself ragged in search of Adelaide, with no results.
After several days of fruitless searching, Adelaide was found abandoned in a local warehouse. She was safe, but not sound. While she has since made a full recovery and is now following in her father's footsteps as a police officer herself, this harrowing event haunts her to this day. Adelaide Siren was only the first victim in an still ongoing case of serial kidnappings known as the Umbra Cases.

This case would take the world by storm when months later, someone else would disappear and then reappear, under very similar circumstances.
Antigone, a ruthless heel from a smaller league at the time, vanished from her hometown in Greece, a mere nine months after Adelaide Siren was found. After several days, Antigone was found in an abandoned warehouse in the next town over. Much like Adelaide, Antigone had to be treated for psychological damage after the harrowing events from her disappearance.
Over the course of several years disappearances just like these two would happen not only all over Europe, but also in Asia, the Americas, and in a few occasions even in Northern Africa. Diana Cruz, Jessica Clayton, the wrestler Loulou. Just to name a few of the larger cases ever since Antigone.
By this point several forums were working together to try and figure out the who, the how, and the why. A fruitless endeavor given how random the victims were chosen, and how spread apart across the globe.
One thing however, that the police doesn't consider, but that ties all these cases together, is reports of a strange substance roaming in the shadows, as if stalking the victim before they disappear...

Aligning with many of the disappearances, several reports were made to local authorities and on cryptid forums of a strange, sentient substance.
According to the reports, the sightings were scarce and unclear, but they all had a matching vague description: an amorphous dark blob, moving with sentience, and in some scenarios, glowing yellow eyes, before scuttling out of view. Online sleuths researching into the Umbra Cases are still unclear about whether there is a connection between this Goop, the name the creature was given, and the kidnappings themselves.
However, there is one special report that I believe deserves recognition, especially in a case so vague and mysterious such as this one. A report with a direct tie to one of the umbrabductions.
This particular abduction was one of many that happened little over 5 years ago now during what people online call "The American Tour". The online forums went to work fast, but much like the authorities themselves, they were unable to find a culprit or make any significant breakthrough. Our victim, whose identity was kept anonymous at the request of her family post-recovery, was found the next week in an abandoned building, nearly catatonic. Her time in recovery was spent whimpering and rambling in a crazed fear.
There is one thing that makes this case special however. Moments before she was last seen, 911 was called to bring an ambulance to her last location. University professor Jacob S. Lumox was discovered collapsed and catatonic at the entrance of a nearby alleyway.
When interrogated, Professor Lumox was diagnosed to be traumatized to a degree where he couldn't formulate coherent words. He was declared clinically insane and put in psychiatric care up until last month. When we asked the clinic staff about Professor Lumox and his time in their care, they sent us photographs of Lumox's room along with a report on his behavior. On his scrawled were scrawled several sketches and doodles of what appears to be The Goop. According to his assigned doctor's report, Professor Lumox was recluse and in constant fear of his surroundings. With time he did calm himself but acted more aggressively towards the female staff, in a cowardly manner.
If this all still sounds like mere coincidence then what comes next may shock you. Five years later, Prof. Lumox was released into the care of his family. Immediately he took to the online forums, claiming to have seen The Goop with his own eyes, stalking the young woman who was abducted. His post was met with lots of skepticism, considering the amount of time that has passed since that kidnapping. Nevertheless, we were able to get into contact with Lumox, and he gave us an interesting description of the cryptid.
"Sh-she sp-spi-spilled out of the- the- the cracks... This... dar-"
"I'm sorry, she?"
"Th- the monster! Wh- whatever that thing was, sh- she- she t-t-took..."
"Take your time professor."
"It- it took the f-f-f-form of a- a woman..."
At this point unfortunately, Prof. Lumox relapsed into his aggressive nature and had to be restrained by his son. His family told us what little he told them.
Lumox described the Goop as a dark, semi-liquid blob. He claimed that there was this subtle wetness to it, and it acted sentient. The last thing he claims to remember is seeing it grow about 6 feet tall, and take the shape of a large, hulking amazon woman, with sinister eyes like Midas.

And that is where the trail runs cold. Although Lumox's report may be too outlandish for the authorities, it is not to deny the very real possibility of the Umbrabductions being anything less than supernatural. Will the kidnappings ever stop? Will these women be brought to justice? Is the Goop real? Is it actually connected to the Umbra Cases? Or is it all a mere coincidence? Only time will tell, and we will be there to listen.
