A debate on the topic of racism took place between delegates at the Human Rights Committee(HRC) . The HRC committee delegates argued about the problem of racism.
"There isn't just the problem of racism in the United States but also in Nepal, India, Russia, and other countries." The United States responded when accused by other delegates.
Many delegates reflected on the high number of racism cases in the United States of America and came to the conclusion that racism in the United States cannot be ignored. The delegate of USA pointed out the laws and policies made by their government.
"Just because the virus was first found in China doesn't mean other countries can blame China for everything." The Delegate of China informed the community .
They told them many Chinese immigrants had suffered discrimination and harrassment for bringing the "Chinese virus." Because of their Chinese heritage, many immigrants were abused for bringing the COVID-19 despite never having visited China.
"A video that went viral just at the beginning of the year showed a taxi driver refusing to give a ride to a person just because they were black." The Delegate of Nigeria said "The country has many other such racist acts that can be found. "
The delegates debated ways the country could stop the alarming cases of racism happening. Showing and displaying their research. The session made them realize their passion for MUN.
