"Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them."
- William Shakespeare (Twelfth Night)
I will be the first Deputy Secretary-General in the history of TESMUN since its establishment in 2012. As I carry this title, I also carry the burden of our decade-long legacy. The year of TESMUN 2025 is not simply an event, it's a statement. In conjunction with the vision of our Upper Secretariat Board, we adopted the UNA-USA ROP, a move which establishes us closer than ever to the positions and standards of the United Nations. Moreover, we have expanded by inviting United Nations Nepal's Strategic Partner and diplomats from embassies to help us create a conference that truly embodies diplomacy, dialogue, and change.
Having attended more than thirteen MUN conferences, I have witnessed how powerful MUN can be. I have witnessed intense debate, drafting resolutions under pressure, and finding common ground between delegates that began the week as opponents, and left as allies. In the spirit of Kofi Annan, "You are never too young to lead, and you should never doubt your ability to succeed where others have failed." This has inspired my direction to our teams this year, to not just speak, to speak with intention, not just to negotiate, but to negotiate with understanding.
This year, we are setting lofty goals, with the intention that every delegate will start to think worldwide, act decisively, and lead with responsibility. To paraphrase Nelson Mandela, "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." At TESMUN 2025, education will come not just from a study guide or committee debates, but from experiences, differing perspectives, and the courage to question perspectives.
In my view, diplomacy is not about avoiding conflict but transforming it into opportunity. Therefore, I invite every participant to enter TESMUN 2025 with an open mind, a willing heart, and a staunch belief that we can engage in dialogue together that creates the world we want to see.
"The best way to predict the future is to create it."
– Abraham Lincoln
