The race of dwarves arrived in Terapersü one thousand years after its creation. It is believed that they built great ships and sailed from their homeland in order to escape some dark entity that was destroying it. Dwarves do not typically enjoy being on the sea, and they made a home in the first land that they came to, Terapersü. When they arrived the land was already inhabited by elves, dragons and faeries. Since then, they have established a strong network of underground cities deep within the mountains in the northeast. The cold, mountainous Realm of the dwarves is called Sliavanüa: translated as dwarf mountains in the ancient language. This mountain range is also where most of the dragons of Terapersü choose to reside and they have had to learn ways to keep the peace between the two races.
Dwarves are shorter, broader, and have larger muscles and stronger bones than humans. Dwarves are talented metal workers and they do very well financially by selling their skillfully crafted weapons, jewelry and other wares. Many male dwarves train as soldiers, becoming skilled with hammers or axes as most dwarves' weapons of choice. Dwarves are not immortal. They do have longer lives than humans, though, generally living between 500 to 550 years. The dwarves have a monarchical society in which they elect a new king when the previous monarch dies. A woman has never ruled the dwarven society, and while there is a formal election for a new king, most of the time it is one of the late king's sons that assume the throne.
Dwarves believe in many different gods and also believe in an afterlife. Dwarves believe that if they work hard and earn a large amount of gold throughout their lives, they will be able to keep those riches and live a life of luxury in the afterlife as well as reward for their work. Dwarves do not inherently have magical abilities, but they are able to learn magic with study and a good teacher. Dwarves that learn magic usually use it for healing and to enhance the quality of their crafts.
