Doing a poster would be a fun hands-on approach to assessing how well a student has comprehended a unit. I think that for this approach, I would give them each a small poster and give step-by-step directions on how to make a layout for it so them it would include everything that I need it to but after that, they can put whatever information they feel is important onto it!
I think that doing group presentations would be a great way for students to get involved in their learning projess. I would first teach them everything that they need to know and then put them into groups and give them a simple subtopic from the ones that I taught that they can teach the class about. This way, I can see how well they understand what I am teaching them and they can talk for a little bit. I think that I would need to do a test or quiz in addition to this to ensure that they understand all of the topics but I still think that this is a good idea for the classroom!
I think that having open-note tests on certain topics might be beneficial to my students! This way, I can help teach them how to take notes and we could even take a day in class to make a "Study Guide" that they get to use on the test instead. I like this because in the real world, you are always allowed to use your notes.
Give the students a page that has all of the topics that we learned in a unit with some space below it to write and maybe add some smaller subtopics to help students organize their thoughts. Give the students a certain amount of time for each section and let them write down everything they know on the topic. This would be a good way to see what they remember best and the subtopics would be good little reminders for them about what we learned.
I just learned about choice boards and I think that they would be amazing tools for the classroom! What you do is hand out the sheet with a certain number of squares with assignments on it and tell the students that they need to complete a required amount of them. It would be a great tool to use especially since it would be very simple to tailor it towards each student's learning styles!
