Neslihan James-Kangal, Ph.D.

Neslihan is currently working as a post-doctoral fellow at the San Francisco VA. She completed her clinical internship at the Southwest Consortium in Albuquerque and graduated with her Ph.D. from the University of Cincinnati in 2020. She received her Master of Arts degree from Southern Connecticut State University in 2014. Her previous research focused on deception in romantic relationships.

Her research interests include couple relationships, with a focus on how couples manage conflict. Neslihan is particularly interested in how young adults develop conflict management skills and make the transition to stable, committed relationships. She is currently working on a project about college students’ thoughts and feelings about their undefined, casual romantic and sexual partnerships (e.g., “talking,” “hanging out,” “dating,” or “friends with benefits”).
