As the world evolves and education changes; so should the mindset of educators in relation to assessing students. Assessment strategies can be formative (portfolios) or summative (oral reflections). Garnering information from the students in relation to concepts taught should not just be paper and pencil. Listed below are some of the assessment strategies used in my classroom as well as examples.Â
Examples of assessment strategies used are: oral reflections, short quizzes, discussion, roleplay, homework, virtual classroom tools-(kahoot, quizzes, quizlet). graphic organizer (KWL), displays, projects amongst others.
Games and Apps
Used for counting, sequence and skip counting

Exhibitions
Students and teachers showcasing their hats, skirts, pants, kites and bags.
Boys from grade 2 showcasing their fraction kites and engaging in a discussion about fractions

Projects
Students were asked to create socks representing the dancehall genre
Students created hats, kites, bags, ties amongst other items to showcase their understanding of fractions.
Students were asked to plant seeds and record the process.
Authentic Assessment-S TEM Approach
Students were taken outside to observe there environment and draw pictures of things that are living or non living
Students were asked to create the Dienes block and show their understanding of how they are used.
