Reppin' the brand-GHPS
Nestled in the cool parish of St. Andrew is a school renowned for producing top achievers not only in academics but sports.; in the likes of Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce; the world's fastest woman. The George Headley Primary opened its doors on February 1, 1977 with a cohort of 500 students and 9 teachers; captained at the time by Mrs. DH. Atkinson . Now to date the laughter and voices of over 1300 students and 48 teachers inclusive of Specialist teachers fill the hallways and corridors.
Since its humble beginnings George Headley has become a brand in the academic arena. The students of the George Headley Primary have excelled in academics, sports, JCDC competitions and most recently theatre. George Headley Primary students were involved in the historical staging of the first children’s pantomime, The G.E.M. where they were casted for key roles in the production.
The school is located at 61A Baldwin Crescent, Kingston 20- in the heart of the inner city. Can anything come from the ghetto they would say-a resounding yes would be the answer. This the students, teachers and administrative staff as proven for more than 4 decades. The institution as some dubbed it Ghetto PreP," was named after the famous cricketer- George Headley.
At the helm pf the ship is captain, Aretha Willie supported by her vice captains, Ms. Judith Adams (VP) an Mrs. Charnette Goodall-Wright (VP) along with her forty-eight crew members (teachers).
It is never a dull moment at the institution as the students likewise teachers make the best of every moment and celebrates every small win; with of course our dynamic and energeticprincipal. https://images.app.goo.gl/qMKiJnsuSawrbvND9
The institution currently houses 6 grades of which there are 7 classes per grades, a multi-purpose room which was recently renamed Taylor's Hall, an Imagination room which was built and furbished by Caprisun after the school won the competition. There is also a P.E room, Guidance and Maths room. The Maths Room is used for "pull-outs" soas to assist those students who are struggling.
Despite its many accomplishments the school is continually finding new ways to enrich the educational experience for students. Gymnastics and Swimming, were recently offered as extracurricular activities to provide exposure for our students, so they receive the opportunity to be “all that they can be”. Other activities offered at the institution include but notlimited to: Environmental, Art and Dancing Clubs.
The school's motto: "Hard work brings success" and mantra: "Making our good school G.R.E.A.T" epitomize the institution and what it is all about and what it will continue to be about many more decades to come. We at the George Headley Primary epitomizes GREATNESS as we continue to make our mark and leave our signature in the education sector.
