Character Creation

Character creation can be a bit daunting sometimes and we have a few rules in place to try and make everyone's experience a little easier. Choosing a race can be one of the more difficult parts of making a character and we have two options in this regard! 

You can choose one of our custom Races, these are the native people of the world of Khultan, they come from the many lands you can see on the map! Each has their own page and general information about their culture and other useful things. Please keep in mind these are generalisations of their culture and there might be outliers and other interesting facets to explore. We ask that players choosing these races that they adhere to the character appearance section for the sake of racial identity. Unless stated otherwise we ask that natural tones are to be used in character creation (unless otherwise listed as a racial trait).

Or we have the Outsiders, these are people from beyond the world of Khultan, from realms of their own. The Sundering caused a crack that reaches into many places, allowing people from other places to fall through the Rift and into the world. These displaced folk have found themselves in a place that might be somewhat familiar to some, and completely alien to others, but ultimately far from home. The Outsiders have been created to allow people to have creative freedom of their character's race and appearance. Just remember though, as an Outsider, you are a stranger in this world and to it's people. Not everyone will react favourably.

We ask that you use common sense with this freedom, and adhere to our rules, especially those below. 

Name

When naming your character, please search the character sheets to make sure your name is not taken already by someone else. If so, you will need to use a reasonably different name to ensure that both players and admins are not confused! Please use setting appropriate names. An admin will contact you if your name is inappropriate! If you forgot to change your name at character creation, please reach out via ticket for an admin to fix you up!

Characteristics & Abilities

There’s also a few simple rules here as well, to ensure that things remain fair for everyone. 

• All characters are mortal.  This means all characters live a normal lifespan for their race, become injured, are not experts at everything, etc. Characters that are a few hundred years are fine, however characters that have lived for thousands of years will not survive crossing into the world (Just trust us, it's not pretty). 

• All characters are roughly at the same power level. You are not a god, you are not all powerful. 

• Shape-shifting has different applications via whatever method it is applied. Those that utilise sorcery are bound by the rules of sorcery and its dangers. Those that have been cursed to become creatures are bound by triggers beyond their control and must act as such. 

• Please do not make halfbreeds of our races, these limitations are because of cultural or physical limitations, if allowed to mix with other races, these will be stated on their racial page!

• Please do not adjust your height whenever it suits you. Your Character must deal with the Advantages and Disadvantages of their size. The only exception is to fix a bug. 

For Outsiders there are a few extra rules, this is to keep some balance in the world. The Rift is fickle, some even say it is alive, what is known to some degree is that not all that fall into it will make it through.

• Please do not blatantly use existing lore such as D&D or other established canon. Outsiders are to let your creativity flow free!

• Make sure your character fits to the theme! Modern or futuristic characters are not allowed.

• The long lived (800+ years) will not make it. Those of a venerable age (500+) will experience some memory loss.

• Those of the gods will not make it. Angels, Demons, etc. Divine and Unholy powers are at work within the realms unseen, who knows where these people are spirited off to, or devoured.

• Power. The magic of the world is unlike anything they will have known in their own, even if they were great and powerful in the past. The rules are different here and they will have to learn them, especially the cost of such power should it be misused.

• Technology is to be limited for the worlds your characters come from. No modern or advanced technology! Magitech and Steampower is present in the world, but not common. 

• Outsiders are from beyond the Rift, they are new to this world and their knowledge should reflect that. 

• While they might appear similar to one of the resident races of Khultan, please pick the Outsider option at the NPC when you spawn in.

Consent Sheets

As this is a roleplay server, people play their characters in many different ways, some things are okay with some people, some things are not. This consent sheet is to reflect what you are okay with doing should your story not quite go as expected. Consent is important, but please remember, it goes both ways, do not do things to other people that you have not allowed on yourself. Keep things fair and keep things fun.  Also please be aware that you might run across some of these things in the world if you're poking about, it is up to you to remove yourself from the situation if you are uncomfortable, even if it requires a quick OOC notice. Any harassment towards others over things that you do not agree with will not be tolerated.

Harassment over consent sheets will not be tolerated. If someone says no, then that is that. That being said, consent sheets are not to be used to hide behind, as stated, do not do to others what you will not allow to be done to yourself. Respect is a big thing here, and disrespectful conduct will be dealt with. 

If you make a change to your bio or consent sheet, please make a note of this as a comment in your post on the Forum. We understand that sometimes you need to change things, but we also need some accountability so people do not abuse this feature.

TEMPLATE 

Please keep to the template provided. These are to provide some basic information for Admins to ensure you have a grasp of the rules, and information for people you interact with. The Consent sheet is a must, please answer with simple answers such as Yes, No, or Discuss Beforehand. Please do not post Emojis as answers. 

If you leave the server, accidental or otherwise, your bio and consent sheet may be removed at any time. You will need to repost your bio if you return.

Consent Sheet Clarifications

If you are unsure of what some of the things on the consent sheet entail, please refer to this small list. Remember, you are stating if you are open to these things happening to your character or not. If you are unsure, please ask in the help channel. 

• Forced ERP: The Conan universe it not a nice place, some people are comfortable with the concept of rape in a fantasy setting. Others are not. 

• Long Term imprisonment: This is if you're okay with being held prisoner for a long period.

• Slavery: Pretty self explanatory. If you're up for your character being a slave of another character, not if you are intending on being a slaver. Remember, this is not exclusively sexual in nature, some people may want slaves to perform menial tasks and hard labour, as was the norm in historical slavery. 

• Torture: Also pretty self explanatory. Some people may find this kind of RP a bit too brutal or gruesome for their tastes. 

• Disfigurement: Could go hand in hand with Torture, but can arise from other source of RP. Essentially consenting to the possibility of another character causing some sort of physical disfigurement to yours.
