She Who Lingers, The Half-Dead Goddess Eons ago, Ahaka was simply a goddess of water, ensuring that rivers flowed and life could flourish. However, this was looked upon by Utroghu as a continuation of a mistake, and the God of Destruction struck Ahaka down in an attempt to weaken part of the mortal realm. However, the eldritch god was unable to strike a second blow to complete what the first intended, and Ahaka, while greatly wounded, was able to survive. The stricken goddess called, and the answer was that of the feline creatures of the jungle came to her side as demons befell their lands. They are transformed into warriors of strength and fury, capable of viciously repelling the threat from beyond the Veil. Remaining at Ahaka’s side, the Alia have since become a people of their own in the world, and their battle is still being fought to this day, both in the outer realms beyond the Veil and where demonic creatures sneak through the cracks.
Ahaka has changed; no longer a goddess of mere water and life, she is Utroghu’s greatest enemy and is dedicated to defending the mortal realm against his threat. Life and death are her dominion; the waters of her dominion run far and deep, the river of the Underworld flowing from life to death in a never-ending cycle. Ahaka does not ask for grand sacrifices of the unwilling to her and will often strike down those that dare to do such a thing. Those that are sacrificed to her must be willing, as those souls will join her eternal war in lands beyond the veil.
Once a mere goddess of water, Ahaka is a goddess of duality, with life and death within her dominion.
Cats are sacred to Ahaka, as they were the only creatures of creation that heard her call to battle. She is often depicted wearing a skull mask, as well as being scantily clad. Even to this day, her shrines are often placed near water, and the greatest temple to her within the Zakaran Jungle has water channels that flow from the top-most point.
While Ahaka’s presence is mostly seen in the Alia homeland of the Zakaran Jungle, there are many shrines across the world dedicated to her. As a staunch opposition to the demonic forces from beyond the veil, she is considered an ally of the Mortal Realm and her warriors are amongst the most zealous of all religions.
Those that are willingly sacrificed to Ahaka and die in battle in her service are brought to her by the river of life and reborn as great warriors in the realms beyond. These warriors aid her in keeping the forces of Utroghu at bay, fighting in the eternal war against the god of Destruction.
For purposes in-game, the Derketo religion can be used as a substitute.
