The Father of All, the God of Gods, The Green Man; these are but a few of the names attributed to Bahl, the oldest of all the gods. His domain encompasses all that lives, and many creation myths tell of him drawing together the cosmic power of the void to create the world, creating the Veil to shield his creation from harm. While his influence over man has somewhat diminished with the uprising of new gods, his dominion over plants and all creatures that walk on the world is undeniable.
When one speaks to Bahl, his ear is given to those who will listen to the old tongue of the earth, the language that was spoken before all others, the heartbeat of the world itself. It is the most primal force in existence, an echo of the raw power used to create the world, lending it as the language of creation. But few have the patience or the ability to listen. The fires of progress have disrupted some of this natural order, and some have lost their ability to listen to the world.
Even if they cannot hear it, hunters that respect the natural order of the world attribute their kills to Bahl, as the hunt is but one aspect of the wild, a life taken to ensure that life is maintained. That respect is often given favour, even if unheard, as Bahl does not revel in the worship and grovelling that other gods may enjoy. A respectful hunter will always find enough food to feed themselves and their family and may find that dangers seldom find them in the wilds, while a greedy hunter or poacher will find themselves hunted and hungry.
Shamans of the Sylvan are among some of the most receptive of all the people, even if they were not present for the creation of the world. They hear the voice of the world and its secrets, and are often favoured by Bahl to walk among the creatures of the forest as one of them, shapeshifting being a gift given by the god for those that wish to be closer to creation.
Both plants and living creatures fall within his dominion.
Often depicted as a man with beast-like features, Bahl has many faces and forms. His temple in Thalach is overgrown with plants and all manner of creatures find sanctuary within its walls, while sacred groves are maintained throughout Albann.
The worship of Bahl is widespread, though Sylvan and Albanni are the most well known worshippers. To a lesser extent, the Hauflin also worship Bahl as The Green Man in the guise of a harvest god.
Bahl’s realm is that of a deep forest, where all creatures live in peace and harmony with each other. Those of his followers that are given the chance to retire to his realm find a deep peace within themselves in such a place, shamans that have delved deep within a trance having been gifted small glimpses of this realm, some even managing to speak briefly with ancestors.
