The One from the Void, The Destroyer, Abomination, The Adversary, The Lord of Destruction. Utroghu is perhaps as old as Bahl, if not even older. Emerging from the depths of the cosmic void long ago, this eldritch god sees all life as a mistake and ever seeks to enter it in order to consume all life within and return it to its original state. However, the Veil protects the world from its presence, preventing it from physically leaving the void it resides in; however, from time to time, cracks and doorways are opened, allowing its influence and minions to wreak havoc on the mortal realm, the bright lure of life being too great for it to pass up.
Utroghu’s realm within the void is filled with hate, a mockery of the life that exists beyond the Veil and those that are torn from the world are ensured an eternity of torture, their forms twisted and minds ripped apart until they are corrupted so completely that there is no escape from his will. These creatures are no longer mortal, no longer recognisable as a race of the world, but his minions, mind, body, and soul. Those unfortunate souls that find themselves there are often sent by the mortal minions of the god, sacrificed or cursed; some are dragged through ancient doorways through the Veil by those that lie in wait.
However, Utroghu made a deadly enemy when it attacked Ahaka, the goddess of water. Striking her down, Utroghu was not given the chance to completely end her life, thus creating its greatest enemy, one that is dedicated to protecting the world from its influence. Ahaka and her followers have dedicated their lives to discovering and rooting out all that would aid this god of destruction, as their efforts may bring about the very end of the world if it is unleashed upon it. Many tales speak of the balance of the world itself turning on its head with its mere presence, fierce storms, earthquakes, plagues, and diseases being unleashed as signs of the end times. These tales warn of such things, as Utroghu will feast upon the world and its energy should this happen, an act that cannot be undone.
Destruction, madness, and complete annihilation are the spheres that comprise Utroghu. As such acts of destruction of any person, item, or realm occur, souls falling into utter madness give Utroghu power. Utroghu’s grip on madness is so great that to even look upon the god is enough to shatter the sanity of any mortal or spirit, driving them into mindless acts of destruction to further their god's will.
Often depicted as a mass of writhing tentacles with one great eye and two lesser ones, however, few know what the god of madness looks like outside of madmen whose accounts cannot be trusted. However, the cults hidden in the dark places of the world all seem to decorate their holy sites in much the same way: with a large black jade statue of formless tentacles and three giant green gems at their center.
There is no one culture that openly worships Utroghu, as he tends to find his home within the minds of madmen and those bent on destruction. However, of the many cults to the god scattered over the land, many of their members tend to be of the Aphos, as in their attempt to shatter the Veil, Aphos tend to fall into madness more often than others.
There is no afterlife for those that dare to worship Utroghu, as this implies the god cares for a life lived, the antithesis of everything the elder god holds dear. Instead, there are those who have had the misfortune to find themselves within his dominion within the void. These unfortunates are only assured one thing with their newly gained eternal life, an eternity of torture as their mind, body, and soul are turned into twisted abominations with nothing left of themselves and completely subsumed by Utroghu's will. These tormented have now become Tormentors, some of whom were sent back to the world to unleash Utroghu's will on the Mortal Realm.
