in this, her aunt and uncle weren't afraid to show their contempt towards little sarah from the get go, and are much more vile in their opinion of her than in her normal verse. though not physically abusive other than to grab and pull her around, they were still verbally harsh and clearly in disregard of her.
this never stopped sarah from trying to please them, but they eventually couldn't take it.
they abandoned her by locking her in a closet. she was only five years old. in some cases, your character can find her in this closet after three days. in other cases, the police found her and took her to the orphanage where she lives under the care of ms. margarine.

summary
sarah had always been working to keep her "parents" affections. yet, for some reason, they didn’t seem to care for her. she told herself they loved her, but never did they pay her much mind. if they did, it was usually to scold her or yell at her. sarah never knew why – never understood. the little girl just continued to be bright and hopeful that things would get better.
they never did.
instead, one night, her supposed father grabbed her roughly and locked her in a closet while her supposed mother just turned the other way. then they vanished, leaving the tiny child trapped in the darkness, scared and alone. she screamed and cried and banged upon the door until her knuckles bled. someone would hear her… someone.
about three days later.

she sees her "parents" in the form of inkly black creatures with long claws within her nightmares. she calls them the night monsters.
