Magic icons are available for your use, you can get the jist on some of them on name alone. Fire is fire magic for example But the icons can be used as symbols for magic users to use to either portray what sort of magic they study in, or for a school to display the type of magics it teaches.
Time, necromancy, and life are TABOO, but that doesn't mean you're not allowed to have your StarDragon practice it! Elliott there who seems a little too pro-taboo is a necromancer himself. Just lore wise, someone who dabbles in necromancy wouldn't loudly-proudly state it in the streets because they absolutely would be immediately apprehended. Stardragons have innate magical abilities, but must study and practice in each school of magic in order to wield their power. The most commonly practiced are elemental magics; water, fire, earth, air and electricity. That said, non-elemental schools of magic like telekenisis, telepathy, empathic connection to flora or fauna, and magical healing are failry common as well.
Stardragons may choose to study more than one source of magic, but someone who spreads their knowledge between the element of fire, water and earth won't be able to successd in a battle of fire against someone who studies solely in the element of fire. It is difficult to master several sources of magic to their fullest, and impossible to master all of it.
While there are stories and myths of StarDragons levelling entire cities with their magic abilities... these legends are simply tales of fiction. A single dragon could not acheive such power unless granted by the Gods Themselves
Magic that dabbles with time, death, and life are, while not unheard of, sparsely practiced. Of course those found, say, abusing their power over fire to burn down a forest are dealt with accordingly. The laws dictating how criminals are handled depends on region, but those who practice in the tatoo magics will find themselves immediately apprehended, even if they insist to attempt to use the magics for good. Something as simple as having a book of necromancy on one's person, even if they themselves are unable to cast necromantic magic, will find themselves punished.
Unfortunately the practice of these magics are believed not to possess good intentions no matter the use, and that this is something that the Gods and only the Gods should be allowed to do. --Different dragons have different beliefs on this though, I personally find no harm in well meaning interests.
Each Stardragon's magic is derived from their life gem, a well containing their potential reservoir of power and essence of their being. Some have more potential than others, but potential counts for nothing until realized. You cannot draw water from that well until you first learn how to retrieve it; learning to tap into that reservoir and shape the magic into spells and abilities.
Much like an athlete or an artist, it is a skill that very few push themselves to be adept at. For mant Stardragons, their magical powers are simply extensions of their natural abilities.
The average dasher doesn't stop to consider why they can sometimes leap much further across a cliff as if the wind helped lefted them. The average crafter doesn't stop to consider how molten metal s ben to their blacksmithing needs far easier than their non-crafter associates. And the average eater doesn't stop to consider how they can eat disgusting food and not get sick even though I told them that had expired a month ago.. but I digress.
The frequent overuse of magic doesn't come without a cost! While the source of our life and magic, (Shooters aside), is our gems, the gem itself doesn't lose its colour or luster. The magic sort of 'inhabits' the physical gem. However, when pushing the boundries, a StarDragon will, in time, find themselves becoming tired both physically and mentally and may become dizzy or disoriented.
If one were to continue past that point despite these symptoms, nosebleeds, migraines, sensitivity to both light and sounds and vomiting generally follow. Do NOT push yourself further, as death is often times the next step.
As an aside, there is one notable exception to this, and that is in some cases when a Stardragon has a cracked gem. In those cases, gems have been known to "bleed off magic" either in a form of seeping mist or dripping energy. The caster in question usually describes the sensation as "painful as sin" well, very painful.
