Raqqa

Overview

In Raqqa, there are 89 informal settlements and collective centres hosting approximately 100,000 individuals. 20 of the sites are collective centres while all other sites are informal settlements. 

The majority of current last-resort sites opened in 2017 however, of sites still open, there have been informal settlements/collective centres in the governorate since at least 2013.

Areas of origin

Based on REACH light profiling data, the first and most common reported governorates of origin by key informants in informal settlements are Deir ez-Zor, followed by Homs, Hama, Raqqa, Aleppo and Idleb

At a sub-district level, Oqeirbat sub-district in Hama governorate is the most commonly reported area of origin followed by Tadmor sub-district in Homs governorate and Maadan sub-district in Raqqa governorate.  

Populations in these last-resort sites have been displaced by varying causes including the civil conflict and ISIS campaigns as well as households displaced by the September 2019 conflict escalation.
