Aleppo (Menbij)

Overview

In Menbij, all out of camp last-resort sites are informal settlements. There are approximately 34 informal settlements hosting 7,200 individuals. 

Informal settlements are present both in Menbij City and Menbij countryside.

The majority of current last-resort sites opened in 2017 however, of sites still open, there have been informal settlements in the governorate since at least 2012.


Areas of origin

Based on REACH light profiling data, the first and most common reported governorates of origin by key informants in informal settlements are Aleppo, followed by Hama, Idleb, Raqqa and Homs. 

At a sub-district level, Khanaser sub-district in Aleppo governorate is the most commonly reported area of origin followed by Maskana and Dayr Hafir sub-districts.  

Populations in these last-resort sites have been displaced by varying causes including the civil conflict, ISIS campaigns and, conflict in Northwest Syria.
