Established in 1965, the Department of Metallurgy at Dr. S. & S. S. Ghandhy College of Engineering and Technology, Surat, has been a pioneer in offering quality technical education in South Gujarat. It is the only institute in Gujarat offering an NBA-accredited diploma program in Metallurgy, highlighting its commitment to academic excellence and industry relevance.
The department operates under the governance of the Department of Technical Education, Government of Gujarat. Its Diploma in Metallurgy program is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi, and affiliated with the Gujarat Technological University (GTU), Ahmedabad.
Metallurgy is a vital field that encompasses the production, properties, processing, and applications of metals and their alloys. The department continuously strives to meet the growing global demand for skilled professionals in this domain.
The department boasts a team of highly qualified and dedicated faculty members. Most of them are pursuing doctoral research and two have already earned their Ph.D. degrees, bringing both academic rigor and industrial insight into the classroom.
Since its inception, the Metallurgy Department has produced a strong network of alumni who are successfully contributing to industries, research institutions, and academia both in India and abroad.

All 6th semester students undergo a 14-week full-term industrial training as part of the curriculum.
Many diploma graduates pursue Bachelor of Engineering programs, while others are successfully placed in various companies within the metallurgical and manufacturing sectors.
