Civil engineering department was established in 1955 with intake of 60 students of Dr. S. & S. S. Ghandhy College of Engineering and Technology, Surat. Institute is running under Department of Technical Education, Government of Gujarat and is affiliated to Gujarat Technological University, Ahmedabad. Diploma Civil engineering program is approved by All India council for technical education (AICTE), New Delhi.
The Civil Engineering Department is one of the founding departments in the Institute and has grown substantially over the years. Department is a Professional engineering discipline which deals with the Design, Construction and Maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment. Program was accredited by NBA for the period of 2021 - 2024. Old civil department building was demolished in year2022 and new civil building construction work is going on from year 2022. Received new building of Civil engineering department in 2024 with well-equipped infrastructure, cutting-edge laboratories, and dedicated academic spaces. The present student intake of the department is 124 from 2008 in two divisions and guided by well qualified and experienced faculties. Department consists of various laboratories like, Surveying, Transportation engineering, Fluid mechanics, Environmental Engineering etc. Civil Engineering can be considered as a single largest branch among all the engineering branches.

Each year after completing Diploma in Civil Engineering many students join the Bachelor of Engineering course and some of the students are placed in companies.
