Prayer Chain

What is a prayer chain?

Praying is an ancient human practice, and many people believe in its power. Prayer transcends religions, denominations, sects and belief systems of all kinds. It’s used in many ways: to seek comfort, make a request, ask for guidance, heal and restore, express sorrow, celebrate joy or give thanks.

A prayer chain is a group of individuals who pray together. Theoretically this amplifies the power of prayer. Praying as a group also fulfils the human need to connect with a power greater than ourselves and with one another.

Choreographer of this dance

The Choreographer of this dance was Esclarmonde Tuk who was born in Rotterdam, Netherland in 1942 and died 2015. Esclarmonde was the head and founder of the Sacred Dance Netherlands Foundation. She had a dance background in ballet and theatre group.

A German, Bernard Wosein (1906-1968), who had a passion for traditional European dance, developed modern circle dancing at Findhorn in the 1970’s and 80’s.

In 1979 she became acquainted with the Sacred Dance that had just been introduced in the Netherlands. She immersed herself in this, among other things, by attending workshops with Bernhard Wosien (founder of Sacred Dance). In 1983 she co-founded and taught the first Sacred Dance instructor course, given by Friedel Kloke-Eibl and where Bernhard Wosien regularly taught.

There is an interesting and indirect connection from Wosein to Lois’s Foster classes, because Wosein used to dance with Friedel Kloke-Eibl from Holland, who danced with Conny Brandt, who introduced Lois to circle dancing in Melbourne.
