Il Cantico delle Creature

Italy

The Song or Hymn of the Creatures

Angelo Branduardi

Choreographer: Brigitte Stufkens-Geerlings

 It is a creation prayer.

The canticle of St Francis of Assisi.

O most high, almighty Lord God, to you belong praise, glory, honour and all blessing.

Praised be my Lord God for all his creatures, and especially our brother, the sun, who brings us the day and who brings us the night; fair is he and shines with a very great splendour.

O Lord, he signifies you to us.

Praised be my Lord for our sister, the moon.  And for the stars which he has set clear and lovely in the heavens.

Praised be my Lord for our brother, the wind and for the air and the clouds, calms and all weather by which you uphold life in all creatives.

Praised be my Lord for our sister, water, who is very serviceable to us and humble and precious and very clear.

Praised be my Lord our brother, fire, through whom you give us light in the darkness; he is bright and pleasant and very mighty and strong.

Praised be my Lord for our mother, the earth, which sustains us and keeps us, and brings forth grass and diverse fruits and flowers of many colours.

Praised and bless the Lord and give thanks to him, and serve him with great humility.
