According to Chinese written sources, Funan cities were surrounded by walls. Archaeological evidence suggests that these walls were likely ramparts, or walls made out of earth. Moats also surrounded the cities. Inside the cities themselves, palaces and some houses may also have had walls. Public buildings were made from brick, while regular houses were made from wood and propped up on stilts.
The Fudanese people build large canals for irrigation and for transport. Irrigation refers to supplying land with water for agricultural purposes. One canal that connected Oc Oe to Angkor Borei, the kingdom’s agricultural center, was 80 km long.
