The Dvaravati people traded with Indians and the Chinese. They also received goods from other places like Pakistan, Iran, and Rome through trade with India. The Dvaravati people also minted their own coins as a means of currency so that they would not have to rely on barter. Examples of goods that were traded include ceramics from China and glass beads from India. Archeological digs have also released a comb from Pakistan and a lamp from Rome. Interestingly, trade was done both by land and by sea. Nakhon Pathom in fact, likely used to be a port city at the time of the Dvaravati civilization (meaning it was close to the ocean). This is because sea levels were higher at the time.
