It seems that the people of Lavo did not like being controlled by the Khmers. They tried to declare their independence several times. Finally, in the 13^th century, when the Khmer Empire was becoming weak, Lavo became an independent kingdom. It remained independent until it was absorbed into the kingdom of Ayutthaya in the 14^th century.
