As we have learned, the Mon people of the Dvaravati kingdom practiced Theravada Buddhism. However, we also know that the Khmer people practiced Mahayana Buddhism and Hinduism, and they introduced these religions to the people of the areas they conquered. Many local Mon people would have continued to practice Theravada Buddhism, while others probably converted (changed) to one of the other two religions. Temples in Lavo were sometimes built to worship the Buddha or Bodhisattva, and others were built to worship Hindu gods like Shiva or Vishnu.
