In the 2nd Report to the Northern Ireland Assembly, (2020) using data from ETI’s DSC SESP Evaluation (2018), the report noted that ‘Community Connections’ continued to be a challenge for Shared Education partnerships, an area of Shared Education where least progress had been made(DE, 2020 p 45).
This module has been developed to support new and existing Shared Education Partnerships. The module is divided into three key areas:
Why Develop Community Connections in our Partnerships?
What are Community Connections?
How do we create Community Connections?
Each of the areas provides partnerships with clear information, guidance and resources on how to identify and develop effective community Connections and outlines the impact this can have on pupils, parents and the whole community.
This module aims to:
Provide a clear rationale for why it is important to connect with the local and wider community.
Consider the benefits and challenges of doing so.
Provide a clear definition for 'Community Connections'.
Provide a step by step approach to developing Community Connections in your school and partnership.
Provide examples of Community Connections in Action.
The module is divided into three sections which can be accessed using the links below.
A Teachers' Learning Journal, linked to the module activities has been created to support your professional development and reflective practice.
The module is designed to support teachers from all sectors.
Teachers should engage in with content and adapt it to reflect the context of their partnership, school, key stage, pupils and community.
