About this programme

Introduction and Programme Aim

The Essential Criteria for Shared Education provides opportunity for Partnerships to engage in online collaboration. This means partnerships can now maximise their use of collaborative software to facilitate engagement at all levels;

This programme will showcase a range of software available to schools providing examples of how it could be used to support collaborative engagement in Shared Education

The aim of this programme is to build staff capacity in the use of ICT to support Partnership working and to share examples of practice. The programme will focus on two key areas

It is important to recognise the range of tools which are available to practitioners across Northern Ireland and how these can be used to enhance Shared Education experiences. Input from practitioners and C2K will help participants, in this module, understand how to access and utilise a range of software.

Eamon McAteer

Eamon is a member of the Education Authority C2K Team. He has over 20 years experience of supporting the school system in the use of ICT. Eamon has delivered a range of professional development programmes to practitioners across all schools and partnerships across NI. He has worked closely with the University of Ulster to facilitate a range of research informed Shared Education Modules and leads learning in the use of Collaborate Ultra. 


Daniel O'Reilly 

Daniel is part of the AMMA Team within the Education Authority which is based in Armagh.  He has over 15 years experience of working with Digital Technology to support learning. Daniel has delivered a range of modules to support partnership working. These have included Approaches to Digital literacy & Blended Approaches to Partnership Working. Daniel has also support many schools and partnerships with the planning, implementation and evaluation of digital learning. 


Professor Roger Austin 


Roger is Emeritus Professor of Education at Ulster University in Northern Ireland. He has a BA and PhD from Manchester University, a post graduate certificate in education from Durham University and the Postgraduate Certificate in teaching for Higher Education from Ulster University. He has taught in Pakistan, France, and England prior to his work at Ulster University in 1978.

 

Roger has been a pioneer in the use of online and blended learning for intercultural education and community cohesion. He directed the European Studies (Ireland and Great Britain) Project from 1986 to 1992 and codirected the Dissolving Boundaries Program from 1998 to 2013. These projects reached over 100,000 pupils and involved just under 1000 schools.  He has published more than 60 peer-reviewed articles including works on technology in schools, modern French history, and the teaching of history. He is co-author of three books: E-Schooling: Global Messages from a Small Island (2008), Online Learning and Community Cohesion: Linking Schools (2013), and Online and Blended Learning for Global Citizenship (2021).


Practitioner Voice 

Alistair Hamill - Lurgan College partnered with St. Ronan's College

Alistair is a senior teacher within Lurgan College and has been responsible for Leading and Coordinating Shared Education. He is a great advocate for the use of ICT to support Learning. Alistair has helped to establish a number of practitioner groups which focus on the use of digital technology, to enhance learning, across NI Schools. His partnership was recognised as a world leader in the use of GPS Technology in San Diego in 2018/19. The partnership was able to showcase how they used  digital software to build relationships and develop an understanding of their local shared community.
