Numeracy
Study Overview
VCE VM Numeracy is a practical, applied learning based program, designed to develop the mathematical skills of students in relation to future life skills. This unit will enable students to better understand and extend their numeracy practices in a range of personal, public and vocational situations. In consideration of their local, community, national and global environments, students will develop mathematical skills alongside with the use of appropriate technologies. This is all explored through the domains of personal, civic, financial, health, vocational and recreational numeracy links.
On completion of this unit, students will have a broad range of mathematical knowledge and skills to solve problems in real contexts for a range of workplace, personal, further learning and community settings relevant to society. Skills developed throughout this two-year course will include working with budgets and expenses within the workplace, loans and mortgages, medical and health numeracy, and data and statistical analysis of social health issues. Students will be provided with a mixture of theoretical and practical, project based activities, to demonstrate their satisfactory understanding of the units.

Prerequisites / Suggested Prior Studies
No prerequisites are required for VCE VM Numeracy.
Suggested prior studies include:
Year 10 Numeracy or Year 10 Mathematics
Future Pathways
Students are required to complete 2 VCE VM Numeracy or VCE Mathematics units. The completion of VCE VM Numeracy assists students in the completion of their Vocational Major studies.
