Science

Studying a VCE Science subject will provide students with an appropriate background in the understanding of science in everyday life. Students will also gain a broader basis from which to make more informed choices regarding VCE units of study. An important feature of undertaking a VCE science study is the opportunity for students to engage in a range of scientific investigation methodologies, to develop key science skills, and to interrogate the links between knowledge, theory and practice. Students work collaboratively as well as independently on a range of scientific investigations involving controlled experiments, fieldwork, case studies, correlational studies, classification and identification, modelling, simulations, literature reviews, and the development of a product, process or system.

In Year 11 and 12, there are a range of Science subjects that students can choose to study at Marian College: VCE Biology, VCE Chemistry, VCE Environmental Science, VCE Physics and VCE Psychology.

These subjects are complimented by many of the electives within the Year 9/10 program, and are recommended for students who wish to pursue a pathway in Science in the future.

Note: Enrolment in accelerated VCE subjects is dependent on grades and teacher recommendations in Year 9  Science and/or Year 9 and 10 Mathematics and Science electives. Students who wish to enrol in the VCE VM pathway cannot study VCE Chemistry or VCE Physics.
