Health and Human Development
Study Overview
Studying VCE Health and Human Development provides an opportunity for students to develop the knowledge, attitudes, values and skills that determine their own health, and the health of their local and global communities. The study promotes the understanding that many factors can determine one’s health, especially from a socio-ecological perspective, considering the social, mental/emotional and perspectives of health.
Students investigate the World Health Organisation’s definition, along with other interpretations of health and wellbeing, unpacking the complex interrelationship between individuals and their physical, social, economic and political environments. By studying health in an Australian and global context, as well as the differing health care systems around the world, students are better equipped to critically evaluate policies and programs designed to promote health and development. This in turn, allows students to analyse trends and investigate programs that are consistent with better health outcomes. This study is also based on the premise that health and development must be promoted at individual, community, national and international levels to truly maximise developmental potential.
