Literacy

Study Overview

VCE VM Literacy is an extension of Year 10 English, catered to students completing a vocational major  learning, where knowledge and skills are taught in the context of real-life. With an applied learning basis, students will develop everyday literacy skills through thinking, listening, reading, viewing and writing to the demands of the workplace. Students will also participate in a range of activities that allow the demonstration of their literacy skills, in the form of debating, class discussions and analysing texts. Content is drawn from a range of cultures, forms and genres, outlining the different contexts and perspectives across these different types of texts.

Across the two-year VM Literacy program, students will investigate the use of literacy for personal use, in a digital environment, and in response to issues. This will then be used by students to deepen their understanding of how to create and respond to texts, before investigating the importance of engaging in literacy to advocate, and speaking to advocate. Students will be provided with a mixture of theoretical and practical, project based activities, to demonstrate their satisfactory understanding of the units.
