Band Officers help Mr. Niehoff with the running and implementation of the band program and give the students a very important and integral voice. It also allows for students an opportunity to be leaders and take ownership of their own band program.
The Offices are as follows: PRESIDENT, VICE PRESIDENT, SECRETARY, TREASURER, LIBRARIAN, HISTORIAN, CLASS REPRESENTATIVEBand Officers are voted on annually by the band students by secret ballot and with the approval of the band director.
Officer Characteristics:
-Have a passion for and love of music.
-Good communication skills.
-Follows directions and leads by example. -Act as a student conductor if the director is unable to be present at school. -Be professional and exude kindness, humility, and respect at all times. -Have the ability to give positive and constructive feedback to all students. -Desire to improve by practicing and staying after school to help others. -Play at a high performance level. -Maintain high academic achievement in all classes.
Officer Descriptions:Any officer’s role is modeling respectful, appropriate, and acceptable behavior that exemplifies what the band program is about. (Leading by example in speech, attitude, and action.)
President: 8th Grader!-Provide student leadership and direction for all students. -Preside over all officer meetings.-Brainstorm ideas that will benefit all band students across all grades and ability levels. -Conduct him/herself accordingly with kindness, manners, respect, and courtesy. -Serve wherever he/she is needed for the good of the band department. -Do whatever needs to be done for the students of the music program to have a successful, rewarding, and educational experience.-Consults with the band director(s) and other officers on all matters pertaining to the band.
Vice President: 7th Grader!-The Student Band Vice President’s primary function is to assist the President in all duties stated above. This student also represents the President in his/her absence. (See above)
Secretary: 7th Grader!-Take accurate notes of all officer meetings.-Takes attendance at all performances and rehearsals.-Helps in advertising for performances, sectionals, and other band events.-Is responsible for all written correspondence – Thank you notes, Publicity, Invitations, etc. -Helps Mr. Niehoff maintain the 2 SCMS Band Websites.
Treasurer: 8th Grader!-Work with the band director(s) in counting and submitting money to the Finance Technician. -Keep accurate accounting records.-Help the Fundraising Chairperson with all band fundraisers.
Librarian: 7th AND 8th Grader!-Supervise the Band Library and all music within.-Keep the library clean and organized. -Help Band Members locate music. -Sort music in Score Order.-Distribute new music; collect and file music after use.
Historian: 7th AND 8th Grader!-Takes pictures of band events; rehearsals and performances (when not performing).-Uploads pictures to the Band Pictures Google Drive Folder (shared with officers) for publishing on our Social Media Platforms.
Class Representative: One from each class!Is the voice/representative of their own specific class so all students have a voice on the Band Officers Board. Take what is talked about in the meetings to their various classes and get feedback from the students.
If any officer is suspended from school or have any major behavior issues for any reason, they will be removed from office and a new election will be held for the vacated office.
