ALL-DISTRICT Concert BAND AUDITION INFORMATION

All-District Ten Honor Band auditions are taking place at Glasgown Middle School in Falls Church on Saturday, December 6, 2025.  

“All-District Honor Band” is an honors concert band made up of middle school band members in the 10th Musical District of the state of Virginia (Alexandria City Public Schools, Falls Church City Public Schools, and the eastern 1/3 of Fairfax County). 

“All-District Honor Band” provides an additional challenge and opportunity for band students outside of their normal classes to diligently prepare a musical audition, be evaluated and rated by professional musicians/judges, and have the opportunity to be chosen to be a part of an honors music ensemble.  All students are encouraged to participate as a part of their band curriculum for this school year. 

After the audition, students are then selected (based on the score they receive at their audition) to perform in this honors ensemble.  Official results will not be known until the week after the audition by an email sent to Mr. Niehoff by the district.

If your student needs a specific audition time due to other commitments on the audition day, please note this on the registration form and we will do our best to schedule your audition at the time requested.

Once registration has been turned in and a schedule of audition times is formulated, a list will be distributed to all students; which should be by the first full week of December.  In the meantime, please hold the entire morning open for this event until the student’s exact audition time is known.  Please be aware that students must provide their own transportation to and from the audition at Glasgow Middle School.

If your child earns a position in the “All-District Ten Honor Band” as a result of this audition, he/she will be required to participate fully in rehearsals at Hayfield Secondary School starting Thursday night, February 5, all day Friday, February 6, and Saturday, February 7th, and ending in a spectacular concert on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.  If your child is selected to be a member of this ensemble, there will be a small participation fee.  

“All-District Honor Band” audition help-sessions have been scheduled during Learning Seminar during November and early December for all students to prepare for the audition.  I encourage all students to take advantage of these help sessions.  Please let me know if you have any questions.  South County Middle School consistently has had a great showing at these auditions. Let’s keep that tradition going!

ALL-DISTRICT HONOR BAND AUDITION TIME AND LOCATION

 Auditions: Saturday, December 6, 2025
Location: Glasgow Middle School, 4101 Fairfax Parkway, Lincolnia, VA  22312
Time: Individual audition times will be known a week before the event.
        (One 30-minute warm-up time slot and one 8-minute audition time slot)
Audition Materials: 3 Major Scales, Chromatic Scale, Prepared Etude, & Sight-Reading
Fee: $10 (covers costs of the judges and facilities use)
Deadline for Registration: Friday, October 17th at 2:30pm. MySchoolBucks  OR Cash/checks are accepted. (Checks payable to “SCMS”.)
