Mentorship Opportunities

Winter Concert 6th grade PYRAMID Band

Serve as a “Mentor” by participating and helping the elementary school students with their music for the Winter Concert on December 10th.  This is a great way to be involved in our South County Pyramid! 

Requirements:

1.) Attend the 2 rehearsals in the SCMS band room.  Tuesday, December 2 and 9 from 5:15-6:30pm.

2.) Bring Binder/Music, and Pencil.

3.) Perform with the 6th Grade students at the Winter Concert on December 10, 2025 in the Main Gym.

4.) Get music from Mr. Niehoff.

5.) Call-Time for SCMS Band Mentors on the concert night is 6:15pm for you to rehearse.

Area Honor Band

SCMS Mustang Band Members can help 5th and 6th Graders with their Area Honor Band Music at the rehearsals and at the performance.  

(8th Graders can also earn Community Service Hours toward their Civics requirements.)

Mentors help the elementary band students with the following: 

1.) Finding their seat. 

2.) Making sure elementary students know what to do. 

3.) Answer any questions the elementary students have. 

4.) Help with fingerings, notes, rhythms, dynamics.

5.) Be encouraging and uplifting!

Wednesday, February 11 - 5:00-6:15pm (SCMS Band Room - Door 8)
NO REHEARSAL on FEBRUARY 18 due to Ash Wednesday.
Wednesday, February 25- 5:00-6:15pm (SCMS Band Room - Door 8)
Wednesday, March 4 - 5:00-6:15pm (SCMS Band Room - Door 8)
Wednesday, March 11 - 5:00-6:15pm (SCMS Band Room - Door 8)
Wednesday, March 18 - 5:00-6:15pm (SCMS Band Room - Door 8)

Performance/Concert:

Call Time to SCMS MAIN GYM - 6:00pm
(To get to the SCHS Auditorium, enter at Door 14 in the front of the school. Go straight then veer to the right.  Choir room is the first set of double doors on the Left.  There will be signs to direct you. Put your cases and all belongings and take your instrument and music to the Gym to begin your warm-up.)

Dress in your Area Band T-Shirt and Dark Pants
Area Band T-Shirts will be distributed at the rehearsal on Wednesday, March 18.

Mentorship Mondays

Do you want extra help on your scales, concert music, notes, fingerings, warm-ups, All-Digfvbnd Audition Music, or on music in general?  

Participate in the South County High-South County Middle School Bands "Mentorship Mondays" Program beginning In November at 3:00pm-4:00 in the SCHS Band Room. 

Requirements: 

1.) Sign-up on the virtual resources website with the Google Form link provided. (Link will become active in October 2024.)

2.) Complete the Required Permission Slip for you to participate in this program. (Found in the Band Room or scroll down.) You only need to complete it once for the entire school year but need to sign-up each week you want to be Mentored. 

3.) Meet in the Band Room at 2:30pm on Mondays. Get "Mentorship Monday Late Bus " pass from Mr. Niehoff so you can re-enter SCMS after your lesson and ride the late bus home.

4.) Walk to the SCHS Band Room with your Instrument, Music, Books, Binder, and Pencil.  (Close to Entrance 14 - there is a SCHS Band Sign on the outside door.) 

5.)  Meet with your Band Mentor and get a free Private Lesson with a SCHS Band student. 

6.) Say "Thank you" before you leave. 

7.) Get picked up from SCHS by your parent, walk home from SCHS, OR walk back to SCMS and enter in the Front Entrance to be allowed to get on the Late Bus. 

You must sign up by the THURSDAY before your Mentorship Lesson the following Monday so the list of Mentors can be generated in time for the following Monday's Lesson.
