Mustang Band Placement “Auditions”
During the student's band class.
Auditions are being held at each student's own elementary school.
At your placement “audition”, please let me know the following:
1.) Would you like to change instruments to a “more rare” one next year?
a. Alto Saxophonists can switch instruments to Tenor Saxophone or Baritone Saxophone due to the notes and fingerings being the same.
b. Clarinetists can switch instruments to Bass Clarinet, Contra-Alto Clarinet, or Contra Bass Clarinet due to the fingerings being the same.
c. Trumpet players can switch instruments to French Horn, Baritone, or Tuba which is an easy switch.
d. Flute players can switch to French Horn or Tuba due to the amount of air being very similar to both instruments. These students who switch would need to learn new fingerings and playing technique.
2.) Would you like to be considered for the SCMS “Mustang Jazz” Jazz Band? (Jazz Band instruments include: Alto Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone, Bari Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone/Euphonium, Piano, Bass Guitar, Electric Guitar, Vibraphone, Auxiliary Percussion, and Drum Set.) You need to already know how to play these instruments before you are allowed to join.
