Dragon Age characters. Potentially with other elven-friendly characters too (various videogames, the Witcher, Lord of the Rings, BG3).
Open to romantic interactions with: Zevran, Alistair, but also chemistry based, attracted to male elves, humans, Qunari; less likely to date humans if they aren't super sweet/convincing. See about page. // Could be a follower but only if you let her have the same horrifying backstory which informs her behavior later on.
Potential triggers: noncon tw due to her backstory, slavery tw.
Name: Lily Tabris
Orientation: demiromantic heterosexual.
Triggers: she very bluntly speaks of how the noble son of the Arl, Vaughan, intended to use her and the other female elves (on her wedding day too) so while I don't plan on having her dwell too much on it you should obviously blacklist 'noncon references' and all that comes from being abused by humans and bloodsheds.
Age: 19 at the time of DAO, so 29 during DAI
Marks: a tattoo on the right side of her face. Many scars.
Notable traits: she had no close friends even at the alienage, besides her various cousins, and she has no idea of how to interact with people without coming off as aggressive but she's actually trying. She's trying to be less rude, less harsh, and she does kinda okay with elves, not so much with everybody else.
Lily is an elf, and like all city elves, she has to stay confined in the poorest, sickest, most abandoned side of the town: the alienage, where elves are kept nearly like animals/slaves and under the control of the city Arl. Lily's family, and Lily by extension, seem to be the ones with more freedom, maybe because Lily's mother was known to be a fierce warrior.
At the beginning of the story it's the day of her (arranged) wedding with an elf named Nelaros. The ceremony is interrupted when the son of the arl, Vaughan, comes to grab the female elves to 'use them' (sort of a prima nocta but extended to all women he can see), taking them to his castle after Lily is knocked out.
When Lily wakes up she attacks the guards with the other ladies, helped by her cousin Soris who came to the rescue and gave her a sword, together with Nelaros who's killed right in front of her; she slaughters the entire castle, including the arl's son Vaughn who was trying to buy his life (and her female cousin Shanni) with money. Then she comes out, waiting for her inevitable execution, ready to take full blame to have Soris spared, no regrets.
But a Gray Warden, Duncan, takes her away to be one of his Grey Wardens, an order meant to fight the Darkspawn whenever they reemerge: to explain it quickly to someone who doesn't know Dragon Age, Darkspawn are basically monsters similar to orcs, who will kill people and infect with their blood, those infected will in turn become Darkspawn themselves. Another war against them is coming, and they'll be led by the Archdemon (a dragon) so they can take over Ferelden, the country where Lily lives, and then the world. This is also called The Blight.
Since becoming a Grey Warden shortens your lifespan, Duncan usually recruits people who are about to die or who seem to be willing to join a desperate war.
Lily becomes one of them this way, and joins them in a ritual in which she drinks tainted Darkspawn's blood, that gives her the ability to sense Darkspawn, but also means that some day she'll hear the Calling, her blood will demand blood, and she'll have to choose whether to go underground and die fighting Darkspawn or become one of them, losing her mind, above ground. This is the Grey Warden's destiny, or has been until now.
Duncan introduces her to Alistair, one of his best men, and soon after he's betrayed by a man named Loghain and killed together with most of the army, while Lily and Alistair are rescued by a witch. Alistair asks Lily to lead them and use their Grey Warden's diplomatic position to call mages, elves and dwarves to fight the war with them.
At the end of many adventures, she slays the archdemon, is named the Hero of Ferelden, and takes off to start looking for a cure to the Blight, which will also cure what the ritual did to her.
She can meet muses who are in universes where elves exist, even if they aren't directly involved in Darkspawn's wars and Blights.
-she kills Vaughan and everyone else and takes full blame, sparing Soris from it. Keeps Nelaros ring on her finger as a reminder of what happened
-most of the time after the initial adjustment she'll be TRYING to be a part of the group, not just the leader, but she's very awkward about it. She's too blunt, too ready to fight, too unsure of HOW to be nice in the first place, she didn't even have close friends besides her family members before she became like this, but the fact that she always makes sure to find souvenirs and gifts to casually toss in their direction is probably enough to know that she's trying.
-extremely prejudiced against humans given their treatment of elves in her alienage. Very okay with murder and gore. Whether I write it or not she swears a LOT.
-Resting Dead Eyes Face
-Attraction goes elf > human > Qunari but it would take a hell of a convincing or sweet guy to convince her to date a human. Never been in love before.
-misses her warrior mother dearly.
-Chaotic Good/Neutral?
-doesn't care about politics, doesn't care about mages vs templars and Chantry, about blood magic, apostates, werewolves, demons. Basically: you are a mage who hurts people? You die. Otherwise you are left alone. You are a templar who abuses mages? You die. Otherwise you are fine. You made a pact with a demon and are fine with it? Good luck, not her business. You hurt elves? you die. You are an innocent person in danger? She'll complain but try to save you.
-despite everything she helps people aND HATES THAT SHE CARES
-Would end up fighting the Dalish and killing them because she was lied to about the werewolves and was aggressive about it, so the fight starts, she protects the werewolves and the Dalish turn on her for killing their clan leader. Helps Bhelen.
-tries to save Connor (sends Morrigan after asking her if she can do it), saves the mages in the Circle, pushes Alistair to be king so he can make a change when married to Anora, makes clear to Anora she's dead if she tries anything, she kills Loghain herself.
-Later she'd be fighting for Elves' rights all over Thedas.
Her personality is a mess: she never had real friends besides her family, has always been a warrior but was treated like an animal by humans, so she's rough and snappish and suspicious of all, but she does have an instinctive soft spot for other elves; she doesn't care about politics but will try to save everyone in her path much to her own annoyance. She can't help it, will be complaining the entire time or denying that she cares, but she wants to help.
She's also trying to be nicer to people but comes off as grumpy more often than not.
-absolutely would sleep with Zevran. Like almost immediately. If a romance happens she'll be the last to know. Zevran may have to spell it out.
-Alistair is an exception to her being snapp-y/suspicious of humans/aggressive, he has been too adorable from the beginning for Lily to be able to be mean. She begrudgingly has to be nice. Or at least try to, since she doesn't know how. Can be shipped with him if he can see through her rough exterior.
-that said even her initial automatic aggressive stance goes away if it's not provoked.
-Gives more of a shot to non-humans, but if the other companions try hard enough she'll overcome her diffidence.
-usually takes Zevran in her party with Wynne for her healing magic, and either Shale or Sten for laughs and support when she wants to just go ahead and slaughter bad guys without thinking too much.
Awakening:
-She's by default very quiet and pissed off Warden Commander because Zevran apparently was busy elsewhere and when left by herself she reverts to grumpy as hell.
-will interact with every potential companion but I haven't actually played the game with her so we can just come up with it as we write, what I wrote about her behaviors with other DAO characters still stands obviously: she was in the process of learning how to be a decent person and was ripped from her team, being back to grumpy but with slightly more knowledge of how to show interest and care. SLIGHTLY.
DA2
She will show up in DA2 to check on Anders despite him not being an elf, because she's loyal to people who have fought with her. She doesn't understand half of what happened in Kirkwall but would stand by Fenris wanting to kill the mage who enslaved him AND give safe passage to Anders after he blows up the Chantry because she gets it.
DAI
Sh will show up in DAI because she was contacted by Alistair who told her about weird Callings for all Wardens and wanted to look into it. There since Haven. Diplomatic nightmare so Josephine would keep her busy giving her missions and people to kill. Though it's been ten years and she's somewhat less of a physical menace if not provoked.
if a Warden/Hero/Inquisitor tries to order her around in any way, dominate her, and basically reminds her of the alienage and how she was meant to be worse than a slave, she will despise them; either she'll fight them and leave, or if she cannot do that for some reason she will get away from the person anyway. So if she's a companion she can only be one to a friendly Grey Warden who isn't bossy in the slightest. No Hawkes or Inquisitors are allowed to be in direct charge of her or she's out then too, even more so because she's the Hero of Ferelden and doesn't need to be there.
