One meet, one race for this week. It should be easy to write race notes for that, right?? Wrong!! I'm still going through results and the information to which I currently have access, does not include PR information. I will do my best with what I have at the moment.
As a team, we were 3rd behind Ann Arbor Skyline and Northville. In fact, we tied with Northville and because their 6th runner was ahead of our 6th runner, they took the runner up honors. Northville also ran their full team while we "rested" our top 4 (3 of those 4 did a workout at the park tonight).
Individually, a few performances to call out. Kate Munson bounced back from a rough race at Portage to lead all Saline finishers. Her 19:10 was a PR (a 24 second PR). Grace Roth was next with a season best of 19:31. Addie Turck and Sophie Roth were the next Hornets to finish. Abby Roth, who ran her most complete race of the season, was the fifth to finish and round out the scoring. Mahalia Staton and Jillian Hayes rounded out the top 7 that factored into the scoring.
Lizzie Thibeault made her last trip as captain/senior around the course at Willow in 23:09. She had her entire family cheering her on, including her brothers who both ran cross country for Saline. It was great to see them all supporting Lizzie.
Emma Allis ran a 5 second PR, finishing in 24:23, good for 96th overall. This sophomore is hitting her stride late in the season.
Lola Lange ran an 11 second PR of 24:48. Lola did so with a huge kick on the final straightaway (as we might expect from the sprinter).
Isabella Routson had another PR. In fact, she has PR'd in every race this season except Jambo 1. We may have her legally change her name to "PR". She ran a 25:05 and has her eyes set on sub 25 at Jambo 3.
Claire Oberski missed a PR by 2 seconds but had serious improvement over her previous best performance at this course.
Senior/Captain Madi Rogan made her final journey around the course at Willow. She did so with Kat Szura. Madi is doing what we ask our captains to do - leaving Saline XC in a better position then when she joined the team.
Of course, after I wrote this entire note, the results were published to anet and the PR's were available. I was relieved to see that I did not miss any 😀.
We're very impressed with what this team has accomplished. As we close out our regular season next week, we will continue some of our end of season traditions. I'm very excited that we will be racing Jambo 3 on the North Course at Hudson Mills. It's the traditional course for this race and I am glad we will be back there.
