This week, we celebrated our seniors (Maerta, Neva, Avery, Grace, Bailey, Tessa, Dori, Lindsey, Rebecca, Laney, Nancy, Lucy and Avery (last two not in picture). We had Senior Hills on Tuesday at Mill Pond Park and Senior Speeches on Wednesday. Whether this is their first season or their fourth, these seniors have all made a lasting impression on this team. They gave some good advice to their teammates and wished them well in their future at Saline. We appreciate what this group has done in their time at Saline and wish them much success in their future. We also made sure our seniors know they are always welcome to come back and visit the team.
Jambo Three
Mud, rain, wind and more mud. True cross country weather was upon us for Jambo 3. Legend has it that the mud on the south course at Hudson Mills was beyond ankle deep with no great lines to get through it. It was deep enough that we added 1/2 inch spikes in the front of many shoes and taped even more to assure they did not get stuck in the deep bog.
In the varsity race, as we have all season, we took 2nd to a very talented TTUN. Our front three, Laney, Corynn and Lilly, had phenomenal races. Those front three finished before the TTUN third, but TTUN had a nice pack and had their 7th in before our fourth runner, Nancy Gage, crossed the line. Nancy was followed by strong finishes from sisters Abby and Sophie Roth. Mackenzie Sellenraad rounded out our top 7 and helped solidify Saline's overall 2nd place finish in the SEC for the day and the season.
In the open race, we had some strong performances, despite the deep mud and the rain that started just before the race.
Grace Roth, Grace Oberski and Bailey Burt led the team across the line. They were 5th, 7th and 8th respectively with a 2 second spread. Grace Roth had one of her best races of the season.
Madi Rogan, Lizzie Thibeault, Riley Provost and Avery Bogdasarian rounded out the top 7. Their efforts were good enough to secure 2nd overall to TTUN and, more importantly, defeat Dexter for the first time this season in this category.
It's hard to pick out individual performances we look at overall statistics from the race. However, some notable performances were turned in by Katie Reading, Lucy Sweeney, Eliza Farr, Kennedy Lange, Megan Sweet, Lindsey Clarke, Avery Atkins, Dori Cook and Ishani Deswal.
If you've read the race notes all year, you know we celebrate PR's on this team. Due to the course conditions, there was only one PR, which is notable. In only her 2nd 5k ever, Maerta Haegerdal ran a 1:03 PR. That's impressive!!
As many know, Jambo 3 is the final meet of the regular season. Next week, we will have certain athletes competing in Regionals and the PROM at Lake Erie Metropark. If all goes well there, we will run our final race of the season at the State Meet at MIS. This is the time of year when crowd support means a lot to the team. If you are able to attend to help support the team, we would love to see you there!!
