The season has started! We had our time trial on Friday night, a week earlier than normal. Moving the time trial a week earlier gives the team the opportunity to compete at the Lamplighter meet on 8/21. The excitement for that meet is real and we used the time trial as a way to evaluate where we are as a team. The results are very encouraging!
Savannah Staton was the overall winner of the time trial. Her time of 18:41 was about a minute faster than her 2nd place finish from a year ago. A strong start for the junior.
Addie Turck, another junior, was the 2nd finisher to cross the line. Her time of 19:48 was 35 seconds faster than last year.
Ingrid Thomas was the 3rd finisher in the time trial. She is also a junior and is new to the team. She ran a 20:02 and from what I can see, she ran a PR!! On a course that is measuring long. Welcome to the team Ingrid!!! We're so glad you are here!
Anya Meyer has dedicated herself fully to cross country this year and it's showing. The sophomore finished 10th overall
Ella Myers was the top freshman at the time trial. She finished 12th overall and has really done a nice job of transitioning to the 5k.
Isy Driver and Vivienne Millward worked hard together during the time trial. Isy is a sophomore who is back for her 2nd year of high school cross country. She has been a great mentor to Vivienne, a freshman, who is in her first year of running. Welcome to the team, Vivienne! Thanks for being such a great teammate, Isy!
As I was doing some research and comparison from last year to this year, Ruby Giddings really stood out. She ran 25:07 as a freshman. Friday she ran 22:33. That's massive improvement for the sophomore.
We're very pleased with the effort we saw from athletes on Friday. Some have been training all summer, some have just started their training. The work these athletes put in on Friday was impressive. Everyone on the course gave a solid effort and trusted the training that they have been doing.
The excitement builds this week as get ready for Lamplighter before returning to Saline on 8/28 for our invitational.
