We made our 2nd and final trip to Willow Metropark on Friday. School was closed for the day so the midday meet run without the normal schoolday workload. The weather also contributed to a perfect day for some fast running on a great course.
For our seniors, Captains Payton Aagesen, Emma Allis, Elizabeth Giles, Sophie Roth and Mia Washington, as well as Anneka Faber, Moira Laundree and Natalie Mattson this represented their last trip around the storied Willow Metropark course. Another captain, Kate Munson, was there but did not race. Whether this was their fourth year on the team or their first, all of these athletes have left a positive impression on the program. Thank you, seniors!
As far as the racing was concerned, we had some work to do in the front of the race to determine our varsity lineup for next week. We also knew that this day was set up to be a good day for some fast times so the coaches were looking forward to seeing what the athletes could do as we round into peak performance. We were not disappointed!!
LT led the Hornets across the line in a season best time of 20:37. She's in a great position as we head into the post season
Captain Sophie Roth had a good race on her final trip at Willow Metropark. She ran a 20:59.
Michelle Jiang was the first PR of the day. Her 21:05 was a 9 second PR over her performance at Jackson.
Freshman Ella Myers has been flirting with sub 22:00 all season - she's run 22:00.8, 22:04 and 22:02. At River Rat, she shattered the barrier running a huge PR of 21:29
Freshman Ellery Toth was the next PR. She ran 22:16 for a 17 second PR
Freshman Vivienne Millward ran a 14 second PR finishing in 23:15.
With the exception of one race this season, Danaya Wang has PR'd every time she has started. The freshman continued her PR ways running a 25:27
Senior Moira Laundree continued her 25:49 PR was her first trip under 26 minutes! Nice work!
First year runner as a senior, Anneka Faber, ran another PR of 26:20 as she toured the course with fellow senior Emma Allis.
Freshman Wren Aben decided to skip most of the 27's and jump right to the 26's. She ran a 58 second PR of 26:59!
Grace Patton continued her challenge to each of her PR's. For the third week in a row she ran a PR. Her 28:33 is 14 seconds faster than her previous best.
The final result to highlight is for Ellie Rodriguez. At Jambo 2, on this very same course, she completed a 5k for the first time this season. That day, she ran a 33:01. On this last trip of the season around the same course, she ran a 31:27 - that's about a 90 second improvement in a very short period of time. Way to go Ellie!
The team is next in action at Jambo 3 on Thursday. We're looking forward to seeing what these athletes can do!
