Jambo 1! Saline is in one of the most competitive conferences in the state. There are not many times you go to a conference meet and square off against 3 of the top 10 D1 programs. Until next year when the KLAA becomes a part of the SEC. Next year, our conference meets will resemble a state meet preview as we include Brighton, Howell, Hartland and Salem. But that's next year.
Varsity Race:
In the varsity race, Saline (82 points) took 3rd overall behind number one ranked TTUN (40 points) (your runner should know what this means) and #10 (under)ranked Skyline (73 points). Dexter was 4th with 99 points.
Savannah Staton was 4th overall in 18:47
Kate Munson ran a gutsy race. She was solo most of the time and made her way through the course in a time of 19:19
Addie Turck was the 3rd Saline finisher in 20:18. She had to sprint for 13th place at the end. We will always trust the XC/hurdler/800 meter runner when it comes down to a kick.
LT finished 4th on the team, picking her way through the traffic as she does so well, running a 21:45. She was followed in the scoring positions by Sophie Roth, Caroline Cotner and Ruby Giddings. At this stage of the season, we're allowed to run 10 in our varsity lineup. Michelle Jiang finished 8th on the team, Isabelle Calati was in the 9th spot and Mia Washington rounded out that varsity lineup.
JV Race:
Just like the varsity race, the JV team finished in 3rd place as well. The top 2 spots went to Skyline (20 points), TTUN (50 points) and Saline (70 points).
Freshman Ella Myers had a great race and was the top Saline runner turning in a 23:29 for 10th overall. She was followed closely by fellow freshman Addie McGee in 12th place. Senior/Captain Payton Aagesen was 15th overall. Running with her for much of the race was freshman Maddie Cummings finishing 2 seconds behind Payton in 24:21. Another freshman, Ellery Toth, was 17th overall in 24:27. Junior Catherine Kniffin (25:02) and freshman Piper Rognes (25:36) rounded out the scoring positions in the JV race.
Freshman Danaya Wang finished 52nd overall in a PR of 27:37!
Freshman Wren Aben was 70th overall in a PR of 28:57!
The coaches saw results we expected this week based on where the team has been performing recently. We did have a long talk with the team on Wednesday about putting in the work to achieve the goals we have set as a team and individually. That means the quality days need to be focused and the recovery days need to be just that. We also discussed the importance of nutrition and rest as part of that comprehensive training package.
The Jackson Invitational is next on our meet schedule. The JV race is Friday night and the varsity race is Saturday morning. We're looking forward to seeing how everyone runs at this fun and competitive meet.
