Lake Erie Metropark! Regionals has been there every year I can remember, except for one when it was in Milan. The girls (and boys) won the regional at Milan. Prior to that, the last time the girls and boys both won the regional was 2017. We put a stop to that drought yesterday. Both girls and boys won the regional title. To add to it, the "post regional" race (PROM) was also won by the girls and boys teams. We added to what Saline Middle School XC had started - they also won their regional races on Wednesday. If you want the short version of race notes for the week, Saline XC (MS & HS) won every regional race in which they competed. That's an impressive week (really, an impressive 2 week run when you go back to Jambo 3 and the same thing occurred).

Regionals:
The Regional Championship is actually a smaller race than Jambo's 2 and 3. We prepare the team for this, especially the freshmen/first year runners as the significance of the meet can build it up to be something it is not. All of our athletes handled the race quite well.
McKinley Jones finished 2nd overall in a PR of 18:13. This time puts her as the number one freshman of all time, narrowly beating out Alex Leptich for that honor. McKinley ran a very smart race, not going out too fast at the start. When she caught the runner who was in 2nd place (at the time), McKinley waited for her moment and then made a definitive move with about a mile to go. She held that spot to the finish line.
Corynn Gady was the 2nd finisher for Saline. She was part of the pack of runners that took 5th - 8th places overall. Corynn stormed through the finish line in 19:05 with a massive kick. She was joined by Savannah Staton (19:06), Lilli Schlack (season best of 19:07) and Kate Munson (19:18).
Addie Turck finished 10th overall in a PR of 19:32. The freshman continues to get stronger every week!
Addie was followed by Grace Roth who had a bit of a challenging race.
We're really proud of these 7 athletes. They have performed at a high level and have qualified to run at the MHSAA State Meet on 11/2. We're excited to see what they do!
PROM Race:
The coaches invited 11 athletes to participate in the PROM race. They ran a great race. For a little while, we were running 1-5. Ultimately, we ended up with 17 points and outpaced TTUN's 65 points. It was an impressive showing for these athletes.
Mackenzie Sellenraad was the champion!! She won the race with a season best time of 20:02. She and Sophie Roth ran much of the way together. Sophie finished 2nd overall in 20:11.
Abby Roth was the 3rd Hornet to finish and she did so in a season best 21:00. It's great to see her have such a great performance in her last race of the season.
Kylie Warner was the next Saline finisher in a PR of 21:49. There's something poetic about a senior PR'ing their last race. She was closely followed by junior Mahalia Staton.
Carrie Schwartz finished 9th overall. The senior also ran a PR of 22:05.
Jillian Hayes was the 7th Saline finisher in a season best time of 22:08.
Senior/Captain Lizzie Thibeault ran a season best 22:26 in her final tour of the course at Lake Erie Metropark
Mia Washington ran a season best time of 22:46 to finish 21st overall.
Riley Provost (22nd overall, 22:47 and Kennedy Lange (44th, 23:50) also competed for the Hornets.
The coaches are really proud of our runners and all that they accomplished at Lake Erie Metropark. Watching the PROM race, one can truly appreciate the depth that we have as a team.
Our top 7 athletes, supported by the entire team, will be in action next weekend at Michigan International Speedway. The team races at 3:30pm.
