Robert Gagne was an American educational psychologist who helped to pioneer the science of instruction and learning. In 1965, he published Conditions of Learning, which set out the nine steps learners should experience when being taught something. Gagne’s model is based on the information processing model of the mental events when adults are presented with various stimuli. It focuses on the learning outcomes and how to arrange specific learning events to achieve those outcomes. This pedagogic model helps trainers and educators structure their learning materials and activities in a proven, effective way.
