Bin-less Beauty

With the success of Tour with the tricycle, ROKA succeeded in sending nearly a tonne of wet / organic waste to the Greater Chennai Corporations' Micro Composting Centre (MCC). With the increase in segregation and reduction in the need for common street dustbins, ROKA made efforts to remove some of the dustbins in the locality.

The two places where ROKA was successful in removing the bins are:

• Western end of the 2nd Main Road

• Outside the Ration shop on the Western side of the 3rd Main Road.

Despite removal of the bins, the public continued to throw trash at the location. To discourage garbage, the residents set to beautify the location by painting the place and planting plants. Soon, the place was transformed and people no longer threw garbage there.

The beautification process was driven by the children of Kasturbanagar.
