Door-to-Door Demo

Kasturbanagar was ridden with many garbage hotspots and it was a sore sight for all the residents. Heaps of bags of waste (all types of waste mixed together) and stinking bins that overflowed onto the roads was a regular sight and complaint. Everyone wanted cleaner roads and locality. Source segregation was offered as a one-stop solution.

In February 2019, Ms.Janani and Mr.Sridharan, on behalf of the residents of Kasturbanagar, made representations to the Greater Chennai Corporation Commissioner, G.Prakash, IAS, for clearing of hotspots, implementation of source segregation and removal of bins at few spots. In response to it, in February 2019, Madhusudan Reddy, IAS, Deputy Commissioner (Health) visited us and promised to clear the hotspots. The team from Ramky Enviro were also invited for the meeting, who too promised better coordination.

Awareness campaigns were also conducted throughout Kasturba Nagar along with Corporation and Ramky Enviro staff and Citizen Consumer and Civic Action Group (CAG). CAG is a non-profit, non political, professional organisation working towards protecting citizens' rights in consumer and environmental issues and promoting good governance including transparency, accountability and participatory decision making.

Now, with the assured support of the Corporation and RAMKY Enviro, and the success of Azhagiya Adyar, ROKA focused on the implementation practices.

In the meanwhile, ROKArnival was conducted wherein the formation of ROKA was announced.

Parallelly, door-to-door awareness campaigns were carried out by team ROKA. Personalised awareness drives were conducted involving all the members of the apartment and offering possible practical solutions to problems of each resident/apartment. Volunteers would go to apartments to give awareness about segregation at source.
